It's very easy for us as professional wedding photographers to say you should book your wedding photography as soon as possible, but we're also a company that don't pressure people in to booking so'll will try and be impartial for this blog entry and offer some valuable advice.
The most important things to confirm first when planning your wedding are the date, ceremony and reception venue, once these are confirmed you can start looking at the different services you're going to require such as cake, DJ/band, florist, cars, photographers, video etc.
Although these services all need to be booked, we're pretty certain most brides start looking at wedding dresses first and then everything else follows! We've been pretty fortunate over the years in that we've had a number of bride and grooms who have booked their date around our availability and that really is the biggest compliment anyone can pay us. It's terrible though when a couple would like to book with us and we're unavailable and they have no flexibility to move their date.
There are some couples who book everything early and others who leave everything very late, but in our opinion the answer to the question 'When should I book my wedding photographer?' is a really easy one to answer, it all comes down to priorities. If your wedding photos are important to you, if they are a priority and at the top of your list we suggest booking your photographer as soon as your date is confirmed, regardless of how far in advance your wedding is. It simply means you've booked the photographers you want for your wedding day.
It's easy to book a wedding photographer, but it may not be all that easy to book the photographer you really want. If the photographer you've set your heart on isn't available then you'll need to start looking again, so you need to be on the case and get not just your photographer booked but also everything else that's on your list of priorities.
If your wedding photos are important to you, if they are a priority and at the top of your list we suggest booking your photographer as soon as your date is confirmed regardless of how far in advance your wedding is. It simply means you've booked the photographers you want for your wedding day.
Abraxas generally have couples book with us 2-3 years in advance and although we are a team here rather than a one man band and can cover more than one wedding in a day, there is only so much we can do.
